Let the packing begin...
What a week (and it's only Tuesday!) With today being the deadline for the freighting of our kit/rations/equipment to Greenland, we always knew it was going to be a mad one, but I think even we were surprised! In a “Challenge Anneka” stylee, this week has seen us beg, borrow and steal (ok so we didn't actually steal anything) a huge amount of kit in order to make the shipment of our expedition supplies out to the west and east coast of Greenland in preparation for our arrival on the 28th April. Starting the week with nothing, we managed to accumulate all our expedition gear from Cotswolds Outdoor – the official equipment supplier to the Arctic Foxes – and spent a few glorious hours trying on all our new kit before packing it back up into boxes ready to be sent. We were also donated a HUGE amount of food from Waitrose in Tonbridge (see previous diary entry) as well as from a number of other generous companies, which we carefully packed into ‘day ration bags', containing exactly the right amount of carefully calculated carbohydrates/protein to power the whole team for one day on the ice-cap. With Felicity's house looking like a cross between a food warehouse and an apothecary, It was an ‘eye-opener' to visually comprehend the sheer multi-coloured array of supplements that we will be taking on a daily basis… whilst portioning them out, I managed to calculate that between us we will be consuming exactly one thousand, five-hundred and eighteen little pills whilst out on the ice-cap! Looks like we'll be rattling our way across Greenland! After a marathon all-nighter session of weighing porridge, and counting pills, chocolate bars, pasta meals, and carb & protein bars, we finally sealed the last boxes at around 4am ready to drive up to Heathrow and Hull for freighting. HOORAH! It looks like we're going to Greenland…..!
