Meltwater

Yesterday the Foxes had to face strong winds and ever-changing conditions.  The day started well but as they progressed the terrain changed and warmer temperatures meant greater amounts of meltwater.

Jo was leading the group towards the end of the day picking the best route and looking for thin ice to avoid. Without warning, however, the ice suddenly gave way under her and she fell into the freezing water below.

The training the Foxes had been through kicked in and Jen and Felicity immediately went to the rescue while Rachel sought out a suitable place to pitch tent.

Jo was extracted from the ice swiftly and the tent erected.  Rachel and Felicity stripped Jo of her wet clothes while Jen boiled some water on the stove.  In her sleeping bag Jo soon begun to warm up and Foxy HQ can report she is absolutely fine now.

The Foxes finally got to bed at 0530 GMT which means they will be lying in until 1130 GMT.

28km to go!
With only 28km left to walk the Foxes are in high spirits but it will not be an easy day for them.  Warmer temperatures mean they have to contend with meltwater which makes the going harder and much more treacherous.

All being well, the Foxes will reach Point 660 on the west coast of Greenland by the end of today (3rd June).
