We love Finse!

Ahhhhhh… beautiful Finse. We have just returned from another fantastic week of training out in Norway where we once again graced the frozen lake of Finse for some more kiting action…. this time with 2 friends - Charlie and Cynan - in tow. With the temperature dropping to a mere minus 27oC at night this time, we were positively warm in our little tents (no need for reindeer skins this time!) and were lucky enough to experience some awesome weather, with perfect, sunny, cloudless skies and more importantly …..some good wind!

Armed with our newest kites from Flexifoil, we tested all our new kit, including a 3.5m Rage, 4m Blade III, 6.6m Blade III, and 8.5m Blade III. One word….. AWESOME. With many days spent hooning across the frozen lake and over the back of the hills towards Klemsbu, we got some great training in and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Finse that week was also home to the legendary Ronny Finsaas (kiting god) who has recently returned home from Antartica, and Polar guru Geoff Somers, who was also in Finse training….. and boy did we make the most of sharing company with such experts! With no stone left un-turned, we grilled Ronny for information on a daily basis and he imparted wisdom not only on kiting and equipment, but on an eclectic array of topics from how to cook boiled sheep's heads….the perfect ice needed to make orchestral instruments.... and many other topics that are probably best kept to ourselves! Needless to say, we all left feeling learned! We also caught up with Niklas Norman who was as surprised as we were when we came 2nd in the pub quiz!

Other highlights of the week included a night spent in a snow hole; a great day's skiing up on the glacier; and a cheeky sauna/wash in the hotel (we deserved it!)   :O)

All in all, we left windswept and happy, loving our Flexifoil kites and once again enamoured with Finse. We will undoubtedly return….
