Adventure First Aid Course

While you lot were munching on eggs from the Easter bunny and enjoying your days off work, we Foxes have been down in Devon being put through our first aid paces by Guy, Charlie and Hugh from Adventure First Aid.  As enthusiastic about the expedition as we are, Guy has generously provided us with specialist expedition first aid training so that we may be able to deal with any eventuality when isolated on the Greenland ice-cap.  Along with 20 or so other adventurers/travellers/expeditioners we spent three days learning, re-learning, and practising practising, practising, the basic first aid techniques, within an expedition context.  Rach clearly enjoyed the opportunity to re-live her drama days, and went for an oscar performance everytime she was enlisted to act as a casualty... Jen was superbly cocooned in an expertly-constructed stretcher.... Felicity was replaced by a piece of bacon in the 'wound cleaning' exercise... and poor Guy was subjected to Jo's disgraceful feet in the foot-strapping exercise (sorry Guy).

But it was not only in the first-aid arena that we Foxes excelled... but in the bar!  Clearly over-excited at the prospect of socialising with new people (something we have just not done for months!) on the final night the unassuming activity centre bar was host to an array of bar-room acrobatics, which left a few newly-qualified first aiders feeling they may be practising their skills sooner than anticipated!

All in all it was a fantastic and learned weekend and we want to say a HUGE thank you to Guy at Adventure First Aid for providing enjoyable, expert training, tailored to our expedition needs and for being so totally enthusiastic and supportive of our Greenland Quest.  Thanks also to Charlie for your expert advice/training and for your toothpaste (!) and Hugh for also letting us camp and drag tyres on your land in Dartmoor! Much appreciated  :O)
