A day in the life of a Fox…. |
Well, the life of a Fox has proved to be both interesting and even extreme in cases, but I can honestly say that today has been one of the most bizarre days of my life…..
The morning started off back at Felicity's with an interview with ITV Meridian News, which following an interview with Felicity and a kiting display from Jen, saw the news presenter harnessed up and demonstrating his strength by dragging along a sledge full with…well, our very own glamorous fox Rachel, in an attempt to simulate what it will be like for us to pull our pulks when we're out on the ice cap.
After this spectacle, we then practised our numerous daily drills, including our tent routine (pitching/collapsing the tent numerous times); walking/leading routines; separation drill; and also what to do in the case of sighting a polar bear, which saw us all screaming, pointing at an imaginary polar bear whilst shouting “polar bear.. polar bear”; kicking off our imaginary skis, clapping our hands, waving our arms & shouting hysterically (and generally looking like we should be quarantined), whilst Felicity pulled out an imaginary flare and threw it at the imaginary bear, which had it been real may have wondered what all the fuss was about. Still, it kept Felicity's gran amused who watched on from the house in slight bewilderment….
Once we'd rid our imaginations of all things white, fluffy and threatening, it was time for Felicity and I to turn our attention to our preparations for the London Marathon. Now I'm not quite sure how it happened, but somewhere along the line I seem to have let Felicity persuade me that it would be a good idea, not only to run 26.2 miles, but to do so dressed as an apple. Yes, an apple. Today was the day when Fiona from ‘Team Pink Lady' was to arrive at our house to show us for the first time the costumes that we had agreed to adorn for race day. Now, to me, it was never a good sign that she had to hire a van…… and so arrived some apple costumes of epic proportions, so big, they would put James and his giant peach to shame. So, dressed in bright green leggings with matching leg warmers (oh yes…), a giant apple body and matching stalk head, we then headed into town just as it started to chuck it down with rain, and met with the photographer who took various ‘fruity' shoots, whilst Tonbridge's finest ‘kappa-clad' youth shouted at us, telling us in no uncertain terms exactly what they thought we looked like. Classic.
All in all a hilariously memorable day…. !
But, if you fancy a laugh (at our expense) – come up to London on Sunday 23rd April and keep an eye out for 2 giant apples bobbing 26.2 miles around London… and make sure you say HELLO!
