Expedition First Aid Course

From Sat 15th April – Monday 17th April the Foxes will be practising their first aid skills to ensure that they are fully prepared for any eventuality before they head out to Greenland.

There are also spaces left on this course so if you are interested in finding out more about it please drop us an email at: info@arcticfoxes.co.uk.

Who is it run by?
The course is run by a company called Adventure First Aid - A company whose trainers are all active mountaineers and rescue team members with significant outdoor and expedition experience. They really have been there and coped with these situations so the training is very realistic and down to earth (no fancy bandage knots and village hall techniques!) Part of the course fee is being donated to the Arctic Foxes funds so come along, learn and donate all at the same time!! Win Win.

Much of the course is actually conducted outside, in the sort of situation that you might encounter while out for the day in the hills, out on an expedition or just walking down the street.

What qualification does it provide?
You get an Expedition First Aid Qualification. It is certificated by an HSE approved organisation and covers the requirements for the Mountain Leader and Mountain Instructor awards as well as many other National Governing Body Awards.

What does it teach?
The course covers everything included in a regular first aid course (resuscitation, bleeding, shock, choking, burns etc) as well as subjects more relevant to expeditions and the wilderness - so it includes cold weather injuries, immersion and drowning, venomous bites and stings, hot weather issues, long term casualty care, casualty evacuation, expedition first aid kits, risk assessments and contingency plans and much more.

The course provides training with the sort of equipment you are likely to have with you in a wilderness or expedition environment but is also relevant as a general first aid course.

The course has flexibility to include topics of particular concern to those taking part so if there is a particular subject you would like to cover the trainers are more than happy to incorporate it into the course.

Where does it take place?
It is based at an outdoor activity centre called Mountain Water Experience which is near Kingsbridge in Devon (Postcode TQ7 4BN if you would like to look it up on multimap).
