CANCELLED - Cardiff, Saturday 25th November |
We are very sorry to announce that this talk has had to be cancelled. We do hope that you'll be able to make it to some of the others taking place across the country.
Arctic Foxes Crack the Ice
On 5th June 2006 four remarkable women, known collectively as the Arctic Foxes, became the first all-female British team to complete a double crossing of the Greenland ice sheet, raising funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
The team covered 1100km in just 31 days, travelling on cross-country skis for up to 16 hours a day from Kangerlussuak in the west to Ammasillik in the east, facing incredibly challenging terrain and weather conditions, dragging 50kg pulks behind them containing all their expedition kit.
Their journey saw the Arctic Foxes brave temperatures as low as –20 degrees, overcome sleep deprivation, exhaustion, equipment breakage as well as the dangers of crevasses and thin ice.
Their success is an inspiration to all of us to take on new challenges and find our own limits and their talk is full of fascinating insights into a domain that very few of us will experience in our lifetimes.
The team is made up of Felicy Aston, 28, a travel and adventure writer from Kent; Jo Vellino, 25, a teacher from Kent; Jenny Pugh, 28, software designer from Birmingham and Rachel Pearson, 33, a charity fundraiser from Devon.
