Expedition finished

Day 36 4th June 2006

Current location
Kangerlusuaq, west coast of Greenland

FINISHED!
The Foxes have just finished their crossing of Greenland and are currently on their way to Kangerlusuaq.

The last day has been their hardest; it took them 29 hours to cover just 28km due to the treacherous terrain resulting from the melting snow.

The Foxes are currently enjoying a beer and chocolate while being driven back to Kangerlusuaq.

They plant to celebrate this evening in the only restaurant in Kangerlusuaq.  In their celebrations they will be joined by another UK team who have also just finished crossing Greenland.  This other team is called Hands and Feet across Greenland and consists of UK paraplegic adventurers (for more information see http://www.byhandsandfeet.co.uk).

Tomorrow the Foxes will catch their plane back to the UK arriving late in the evening of 5th June.

This concludes the record-breaking double crossing of the Greenland ice sheet by the four girls from the UK.  They are now the first female team from the UK to have successfully crossed the ice sheet in Greenland. Sadly, their attempt at the land speed record was thwarted by the weather turning against them – something which climatologists are claiming as a rare occurrence.

Please join me in congratulating Felicity, Jen, Jo & Rachel in their fabulous achievement.
