News Flash - It's an Ice Sheet!Our resident Geography teacher Jo has failed to correct us on this fact, but a member of the Reading University Geography department has recently set us straight. For those of you who are interested, there are three ice sheets in the world: the East Antarctic ice-sheet; the West Antarctic ice-sheet; and the Greenland Ice sheet (GIS). Of these, the GIS is the smallest (or third largest if your glass normally appears half full!) According to Wikipedia, an ice cap is "a dome shaped water ice mass that covers less than 50 000km sq of land area" whereas "masses of ice covering more than 50 000km sq are termed an ice-sheet".
